Location is a geographic place mentioned in the records. It can be any place mentioned in the records.

 

  • Country
  • State
  • County
  • Enumeration District (for Census records)
  • City
  • Street Address
  • Zip Code

 

 

Purpose: To allow Catalog users to identify geographic locations mentioned in records thereby providing additional context to descriptions and makedigitized and born digital records more discoverable.

 

Relationship: Locations have an attribution type modifier and may have a related contributor name.

 

Guidance:

Locations are added to catalog descriptions and digital objects voluntarily by Catalog users including Citizen Archivists, staff, and NARA partners following the guidance provided on the Resources page and the Citizen Contributions Policy on Archives.gov. Locations may be suggested or generated by AI / Machine tools.
