Webinar: FOIA Requests for CDC COVID-19 Records - May 12, 2020

What: The Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) co-hosted a webinar at which CDC provided background on its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process, shared how the CDC is responding to requests relating to COVID-19 records, and provided tips for successful FOIA requests.

The COVID-19 pandemic — and the Federal government’s response to the outbreak — has resulted in a steep increase in FOIA requests submitted to those agencies on the front lines of that response. The CDC, for example, received nearly the same number of requests in the first half of Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 as it did in all of FY 2019. The media plays an essential role in informing the public about the evolving COVID-19 situation, and journalists and the public depend upon the Federal records they obtain through FOIA.

The webinar was open to the public and registration was required to receive information on how to access the meeting online.

When: Tuesday, May 12, 2020 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (EDT)
