A letter should give a clear statement of how to follow up over
time on a FOIA request and what the responsibilities of the agency is to
inform a requester of how the declassification process is
proceeding--particularly what email or mailing address might be used to
inform the requester. I have several FOIA requests in, some of which are
about a decade old. Although I have sent messages to follow up I have
received no response and have no idea how my requests are advancing, or even
if they are. A well designed communication would give future requestors a
sense of how they might follow up on the process and even steer it as the
process can be a very long one.
