Memorandum to Federal Records Management Contacts: New Webpage for Metadata Requirements for Permanent Electronic Records

We have a new resource to help agencies understand NARA’s metadata requirements for permanent records. NARA has several different guidance products containing metadata requirements for a wide variety of permanent electronic records. We recently created a web page listing all these guidance products. The web page also contains a Metadata Requirements Spreadsheet (Excel spreadsheet) compiling all the metadata elements from the various NARA guidance products and organizing them into metadata categories. 

The web page and spreadsheet are intended to assist agencies as they prepare permanent electronic records for transfer to NARA. This resource will help agencies ensure that metadata accompanying transfers of permanent electronic records comply with NARA requirements. 

NARA will update these resources as additional metadata guidance products are issued or updated.
