Understanding NARA Product Types
Product type refers to the different types of deliverables that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Audio-Video and Motion Picture Preservation Labs generate in response to internal and external requests. Product types include both digital file types and physical media. For each product we have included the purpose, key product properties, quality control considerations (when applicable), and our rationale for selection (when applicable). The summary pages listed below include links to the Reformatting Approach tables that provide further format specifications and information about the relationships between products and source formats.
