Comparison of Drying Methods
Water may make components of paper soluble-- such as dyes, sizings, fillers, surface coatings, and degradation products of aged papers. Mold is always a potential consequence of water damage when the drying process is delayed beyond a two-day period.
The four processes compared in this project were:
- air-drying
- dehumidification-drying in-house and off-site
- vacuum freeze-drying,
- and a patented vacuum freeze-dry process.
