How to Apply for an Internship with the Center for Legislative Archives

Interested candidates must be:

  • U.S. citizens
  • Enrolled in a degree granting program at the time of internship

Interested candidates should submit:

  • Cover letter explaining your interest in the internship
  • Resume
  • Two letters of recommendation (sent directly by your reference)
  • Unofficial college transcript
  • 10-15 page writing sample (for the public outreach internship only)

Internships at the National Archives are unpaid.

Deadlines:

  • Spring: November 15
  • Summer: March 15
  • Fall: July 15

Given heightened security procedures for federal mail entering Washington DC, unexpected delays may occur in mail delivery. To ensure timely arrival of your application we encourage you to submit your application by email (preferred), fax, or mail with guaranteed delivery (by certified mail or by private carriers such as UPS or Federal Express). Letters of recommendation may be emailed (preferred), faxed, or mailed to the Intern Coordinator directly by your references. Please keep in mind that your application will not be considered complete until both letters of recommendation have been received.
