The Campaign

Although candidates, issues, and party priorities change, the basic campaign process remains largely the same from year to year. Campaign strategists begin planning for an election immediately after the previous election is over. When candidates declare an official bid for election, they begin the phase of the campaign process that is most familiar to us—debates with other candidates, speeches, public appearances, and meetings with voters.

After the election, the cycle begins again as elected officials spend their term in office building their record and championing measures that will, if successful, become the basis of their next campaign. The following cartoons depict various aspects of a campaign from planning to blunders to addressing the voters back home.
