Highlights from our Holdings at the National Archives at Chicago

The National Archives at Chicago holds permanent historical records of federal agencies and courts dating back to 1803 that relate to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Some of our most frequently requested records include court records; records of U.S. Lifesaving Stations and other Great Lakes maritime records; Chinese Exclusion Act case files; Bureau of Indian Affairs agency and school records; records from Army Corps of Engineers Districts on the Great Lakes, Ohio River, and Upper Mississippi Rivers; and property records of former federal properties.
