Record Group & Series: Records of the Office of Strategic Services (RG 226), Records of the OSS History Office (Entry 99).

Description: Two folders within this series are or particular value to art provenance and claims researchers. They are:

  • Box #105, Folder 7: More Art Loot, Lists of, etc. 94pp. n.d.
    Contains a number of inventories of looted art arranged alphabetically by artist. Documents are in German with partial translations. These lists contain the artist's name, a description of the work, owner, and date of German acquisition. The lists cover the following collections: Wasserman, Hamburger, Salomon, Flavian, Rosenstein, Sauerbach, Kronig, Rosenfeld, Thierry, Federer, Hamparzoumain, and the Rothschilds. Also included is relevant correspondence.

The Index in Box #106, Folder 1: Art Looting Investigation-Biographical Index of Individuals Involved in Art Looting in Europe, 170pp. n.d. is arranged by country, thereunder alphabetically by name of individual. Biographical sketches outline the position held by the individual and primary area of activity.
