Established: In the Office for Emergency Management (OEM) by EO 9017, January 12, 1942.

Predecessor Agencies:

  • National Defense Mediation Board (NDMB, 1941-42)

Transfers: To Department of Labor, by EO 9617, September 19, 1945.

Functions: Adjusted and settled labor disputes deemed threatening to the war effort.

Abolished: By EO 9672, December 31, 1945.

Arbitrated labor disputes and passed on adjustment in certain wages and salaries. Abolished, effective February 24, 1947, by EO 9809, December 12, 1946, with enforcement functions transferred to Department of the Treasury and remaining functions to Secretary of Labor.
