Established: In the Department of Agriculture by the Agricultural Appropriation Act of 1927 (44 Stat. 507), May 11, 1926.

Transfers: To the Agricultural Research Administration by EO 9069, February 23, 1942.

Functions: Conducted research in dairy products and byproducts, dairy industry market practices, and the breeding, nutrition, and management of dairy cattle.

Abolished: By Secretary of Agriculture's Memorandum 1320, supplement 4, November 2, 1953.

Successor Agencies: Agricultural Research Service.

History: Established in the Department of Agriculture, July 1, 1895. Became Bureau of Dairying, 1924. SEE 152.3.

Textual Records: General files, documenting such subjects as international dairy congresses, intra-agency and special projects, cattle purchase assistance, and experiments, 1907-22. General files relating to the 1923 World Dairy Congress, patents on employees' findings, experiment stations, breeding experiments, regulations on milk, milk surveys and inspections, and administrative matters, 1922-24.
