MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY RECORDS OFFICERS: Annual Federal Agency Reporting Period Closes March 16, 2018

I would like to remind Federal agencies that this year’s annual reporting period ends March 16, 2018. Agencies are required to submit the annual Records Management Self-Assessment (RMSA) and a supplemental Federal Email Management Report to NARA via our online survey tool. Agency Records Officers and those officially assigned to respond to the RMSA should have received the two links from the survey tool on January 8, 2018. If you have not received these two links, please contact rmselfassessment@nara.gov immediately.

The Senior Agency Official for Records Management (SAORM) Report must be submitted separately using the Microsoft Word template emailed to SAORMs on January 8, 2018. Please ensure that your agency’s report is a publicly releasable version.

As agencies submit their SAORM and Federal Email Management reports to NARA, we will post them on our public website at:

https://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/resources/email-mgmt-reports and https://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/agency/sao-reporting.html.

Following the close of the reporting period, NARA will conduct an analysis of all reports received and will publish the results in the Federal Agency Records Management Annual Report. This report is sent to the Office of Management and Budget and the appropriate chairs of Congressional Oversight Committees, and is also posted to our website. Please note agencies not submitting reports will be listed as non-responding.

If you have any questions regarding the RMSA and/or the Federal Email Management Report, please contact rmselfassessment@nara.gov. If you have any questions regarding the SAORM report or other issues relating to SAORMs, please contact prmd@nara.gov.

To all agencies that have already submitted their annual reports, thank you!

LAURENCE BREWER
Chief Records Officer
for the U.S. Government
