Memorandum to Federal Records Management Contacts: New Resource on NARA GitHub Repository - Funny Filename Finder Tool

We are happy to announce a new electronic records resource to help agencies prepare permanent electronic records for transfer to NARA. The Electronic Records Division’s Accessioning Branch has added an additional tool, Funny Filename Finder, to the NARA GitHub repository of Electronic Records Accessioning Support Tools.

Funny Filename Finder allows users to identify invalid characters that do not meet ASCII standards within filenames. The presence of these characters can lead to issues when attempting to move or open impacted files.
