Records Scheduling Guides

Scheduling guides are for agency records managers and NARA appraisal archivists. They provide advice on scheduling records that are common across the government. Although the records are common, their value varies from agency to agency. Because their value varies, they are not appropriate for a General Records Schedule.

Each guide includes:

  • A description of the function the guide covers
  • Things to consider when scheduling and appraising the records
  • Any records already scheduled in General Records Schedules
  • A list of records commonly associated with the function of scheduling recommendations
     

Use of these guides is not required. Always consult NARA’s appraisal criteria when proposing the disposition of records.
