In the 1936 Presidential election, Americans
reelected FDR to a second term. This quilt commemorates the President's
landslide victory over his opponent, Republican Alfred M. Landon
of Kansas. Embroidered on the stars are the names of the 48 states
and the number of electoral votes each cast. The total number
won by the President is embroidered in the center, while the number
won by Landon appears in the bottom border, between the stars
for the only two states that went Republican.
