Missing Presidential Pardons of Millard Fillmore

13th President of the United States, 1850-1853

The following pardons were stolen from the National Archives-Philadelphia by  Shawn Aubitz in 2002. They were signed by the President of the United States, then docketed and filed by a U.S. District Court in the mid-Atlantic Region.  These are not the Presidential Authority to the Secretary of State to Affix the Seal to a Warrant for Pardon.

 

Pardoned: Peter Armile (alias Peter West) on October 8, 1851

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
Armile was convicted of an assault on the high seas. Signed by President Millard Fillmore and Acting Secretary of State J.J. Crittenden.

 

Pardoned: John W. Comegys on March 2, 1853

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
Comegys was convicted of robbing the U.S. Mail. Signed by President Millard Fillmore and Secretary of State Edward Everett.

 

Pardoned: Lewis George on June 4, 1851

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
George was convicted of counterfeiting the silver coin of the United States. Signed by President Millard Fillmore and Secretary of State Daniel Webster.

 

Pardoned: Bernard Ockert on June 14, 1852

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
Ockert was convicted of passing counterfeit coin. Signed by President Millard Fillmore and Secretary of State Daniel Webster.

 

Pardoned: Thomas Powell on December 2, 1852

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
Powell was convicted of endeavouring[sic] to commit a revolt on the high seas. Signed by President Millard Fillmore and Secretary of State Edward Everett.
