Digital Photographs Relating to Agency Activities, Facilities and Personnel, 2006 - 2011 (255-GSD)

This series consists of digital photographs documenting facilities, personnel, conferences and events at Goddard Space Flight Center as well as spacecraft development. In addition, there are pictures of various VIPs, including Nobel Prize winner John Mather, and Queen Elizabeth. The series includes aerial photographs of the Goddard Space Flight Center Campus. Kennedy Space Center Central Photographic Files, 1958 - 12/1995 (255-KSC)

This series consists of photographs that document activities, facilities, events, personnel, and daily operations at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Extensive documentation is given to various buildings and launch complexes at Kennedy Space Center as well as Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Photos include aerial views of the facility, as well as traditional land-based photography. These images depict construction, launch-related activity, local wildlife, tourism, and daily operations conducted at various locations around the facilities. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.

Mission Photographs Taken During the Space Shuttle Program, 4/12/1981 - 7/21/2011 (255-STS)

This series consists of digital surrogates created from original still film taken during Space Shuttle missions and born-digital photographs taken during later missions. Photographs of Agency Facilities, 1958 - 1964 (255-NF)

This series consists of views of buildings and activities at several National Air and Space Administration (NASA) research and testing facilities. The facilities found in this series are Edwards Flight Station, California; Goddard Space Flight Center, Maryland; Langley Research Center, Virginia; Lewis Research Center, Ohio; Plum Brook Field Station, Ohio; and Wallops Station, Virginia. Included are aerial views of buildings, interior views, and research and testing activities. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.

Photographs of the Apollo Space Program, 11/9/1967 - 12/19/1972 (255-AMP)

This series consists of digital surrogates and corresponding metadata created from still film taken during Project Apollo missions, starting with Apollo 4, and going through Apollo 17. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room. Photographs of NACA Research Facilities and Activities, 1938 - 1958 (255-RF)

The photographs in this series represent the central photographic file of the Information Office of NACA Headquarters at the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory at Hampton, VA. Photographs from the other research facilities in the NACA program were also sent to the Langley facility. Included in this series are photographs of activities at the Ames Aeronautical Laboratory at Moffett Field, CA, and at the Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory at Cleveland, OH. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.

 

Photographs Related to the Integrated Test and Operations System One Weather Satellite, 1/1/1970 - 12/31/1971 (255-ITOS)

This series consists of prints and negatives related to the orbit of the Integrated Test and Operations System One (ITOS-1) weather satellite. The photographs depict aerial images of cloud cover that were used for weather forecasting around the world. A number of hurricanes, typhoons, and tropical storms of varying intensity appear in this series such as Hurricane Gretchen in the Pacific Ocean and Hurricane Celia in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to the cloud studies, this satellite also collected global heat balance data used when studying changes in the earth's temperature. Some prints include public release documents created for media outlets by NASA about various storms, depressions, and hurricanes.

 

Photographs Relating to Aeronautical Research Facilities, 1928 - 1963 (255-RFA)

The series consists mostly of black and white prints (and a few color prints and color transparencies) relating to aeronautical research and testing at the Ames Aeronautical Laboratory and the Flight Research Center (Edwards Air Force Base) in California, Langley Aeronautical Laboratory in Virginia, and Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory in Ohio. The photographs show laboratory facilities, including aerial, ground exterior and interior views of the buildings; and administrative, laboratory and technical staff engaged in research and testing. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.

 

Photographs Relating to Agency Activities, Facilities and Personnel, 1973 - 2013 (255-GRC)

This series consists of analog photographs and corresponding digital reproductions documenting facilities, personnel, and aeronautic and space technology development at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Glenn Research Center (GRC) in Cleveland, Ohio and the GRC field station Plum Brook in Sandusky, Ohio. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room. Photographs of Tracking Stations, Aircraft, and Ships, ca. 1964 - ca. 1965 (255-TS)

This series consists of photographs of spacecraft and communications tracking ships, aircraft, and stations in the United States and other countries managed by the Bendix Field Engineering Corporation for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The majority of the images pertain to tracking stations located in Bermuda, Carnarvon (Australia), Canary Islands (Spain), Guaymas (Mexico), Corpus Christi (Texas), Kauai (Hawaii), Tananarive (Madagascar), and Kano (Nigeria). Shown are employees, aerial and ground views of buildings (interiors and exteriors), equipment, and telemetry and transmission instruments. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.
