Still Pictures Aerial Photography in Record Group 226: Records of the Office of Strategic Services

 

OSS Field Station, Kandy, Ceylon, 1945 (226-FPK)

The series includes reconnaissance views of Look Goh Kam Tok Island (off the southern tip of Burma); an air drop operation to Thailand from Calcutta; Operation Diagram , a supply and rescue mission to east central Thailand; an air drop of medical supplies to Bangkok; and aerial views of the Detachment 101 village of Bahamo in northern Burma. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room. The photos show views of Office of Strategic Services (OSS ) bases, including aerials, neighboring towns and British bases; London offices and headquarters; OSS personnel and Europeans training and preparing for behind-the-lines missions (Jedburgh teams); OSS personnel, including photographers and Field Photo Chief John Ford;  pubs and bomb damage in London; WAC's; OSS branches and their work and facilities, including Field Photo, Research and Analysis, Moral Operations and Special Forces, support services such as printing, mess hall, motor pool, supply, medical and communications, and other activities such as recreation, relaxation and physical fitness. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.
