MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Cancellation of Expedited Scheduling Process Pilot
As of the date of this communication, NARA is cancelling the use of form NA-13175, Clearly Temporary Records Questionnaire.
On October 1, 2014, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) initiated a pilot to expedite the processing of schedules covering clearly temporary records. This pilot was part of our ongoing effort to reduce the amount of time it takes to process agency records schedules. Under this pilot, schedules covering “clearly temporary records” and meeting certain other criteria were processed under modified procedures. NARA informed agencies of the pilot in March 2015 at an Agency Services Bi-Monthly Records Information Discussion Group (BRIDG) meeting and via AC 24.2015 Memorandum to Federal Agency Contacts.
After processing a number of schedules under the expedited process, we concluded that the necessary additional forms, Standard Operating Procedures, and modified workflow, combined with the limited number of schedules eligible for the expedited process, did not produce sufficient results to institute this process on an ongoing basis.
Instead of the expedited process that was piloted, schedules covering clearly temporary records will be prioritized for prompt processing under existing procedures. Agencies are also encouraged to communicate any processing priorities of their own to their appraisal archivist.
All existing, approved schedules processed under form NA-13175 remain valid. If you have any questions about the cancelling of this form, please contact Margaret Hawkins, Director, Records Appraisal and Agency Assistance, at margaret.hawkins@nara.gov.
