MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Release of NARA Bulletin 2014-04: NARA Bulletin 2014-04, Revised Format Guidance for the Transfer of Permanent Electronic Records

I am happy to announce that NARA has issued new guidance for Federal agencies on transferring permanent electronic records to NARA. NARA Bulletin 2014-04, Revised Format Guidance for the Transfer of Permanent Electronic Records replaces all previous guidance identifying file formats that may be used when transferring permanent electronic records to NARA and was written with feedback from a wide variety of stakeholders, including OMB, the Federal Records Council, Federal agencies, and the public.

This Bulletin provides Federal agencies with high-level requirements for electronic records and includes an appendix that identifies file formats that are appropriate for use with different categories of electronic records. Both documents are located on NARA’s transfer guidance web site: http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/policy/transfer-guidance.html.

NARA will be holding online briefings on this new guidance.
