MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Updates to File Format Guidance: Web ARChive and Open Document Formats
 
I am pleased to announce that NARA has updated Appendix A: Table of File Formats of NARA Bulletin 2014-04, Format Guidance for the Transfer of Permanent Electronic Records.
 
Specifically, we updated the Web Records listing in the table to add Web ARChive (WARC) version 1.0 as an acceptable format for transfer of permanent web records. The previous listing had WARC version .18 as an acceptable format. 
 
We have also added versions 1.1 and 1.2 of the Open Document Format (ODF) for Office Applications as preferred formats for the transfer of permanent Presentation Formats, Textual Data, and Structured Data records. The previous listing had ODF version 1.0 as a preferred format.
 
NARA Bulletin 2014-04 uses the Appendix to specify which file formats are acceptable or preferred when transferring permanent electronic records to NARA. As stated in the bulletin, NARA updates the Appendix to include acceptable formats for transfer and to reflect the continual format changes in how agencies create and use electronic records.
