GRS Transmittals

NARA issues new and updated General Records Schedules in GRS Transmittals. Most GRS Transmittals include an explanation of changes and basic implementation guidance.

Transmittals 1 through 22 represent the "original" or "old GRS." Copies of Transmittals 1 through 8 are available here. We only have an abstract of Transmittals 9 through 21. The "New GRS" started with Transmittal 23.

The "New GRS" was a major update of the GRS, including implementation of a new table format. Starting with Transmittal 23 we published all approved GRS at the time of each issuance. We ended this practice with Transmittal 27. Since then we only include new or revised schedules. A PDF of the all GRS as they existed at the time of each transmittal is available starting with GRS Transmittal 27.
