College Park, MD. . . Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin announced today the selection of Dr. Edward Douglas Menarchik as director of the George Bush Presidential Library. The Library is located in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University. The Bush Library includes more than 38 million pages of official and personal papers, 2,000,000 photographs, and 67,000 Presidential gifts. Dr. Menarchik is currently the Director of the Center for the Defense Leadership and Management Program at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. As executive manager for the Department of Defense's senior service college for defense civilians, he serves as principal advisor and educational advocate to the president of the university. He is also the Professor of Management and Education at the university.

In making the selection, Archivist Carlin said: "Dr. Menarchik is ideally suited to lead the Bush Library in the 21st century. He is an experienced administrator and in his current position he is responsible for the formulation of broad organizational and management strategies including program planning and curriculum development. His strong ties to the educational community at large are an important asset to the position of director of a Presidential library. I welcome him and look forward to working with him in the coming years."

Prior to becoming Director of the Center for the Defense Leadership and Management Program in 1997, Dr. Menarchik was a professor in the Department of Democratic Defense Management at the George C.
