Preservation Reformatting: Digital Technology vs. Analog Technology

The 2003 preservation conference was on the topic of reformatting records for preservation and access. In 2003, digital reformatting techniques were not standardized and the quality of many digital products was insufficient for preservation. Conference organizers recognized that the standard practice of analog reformatting in the form of microfilm, analog tape to tape or film to film copies, was rapidly being replaced with a move towards digitization. This conference covered multiple discussion points as analog reformatting laboratories transitioned to digital reformatting, and the implications for preservation management moving forward.
