Programs and Initiatives
The National Historical Publications and Records Commission provides opportunities for the American people to discover and use records that increase understanding of our democracy, history, and culture.
Through leadership initiatives, grants, and fostering the creation of new tools and methods, the NHPRC connects the work of the National Archives to the work of the nation’s archives. The Commission acts as a bridge for innovation and creativity in advancing best archival practices, publishing historical records, and connecting citizens to their records.
Since 1964, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission has funded thousands of projects and supported initiatives to:
- publish historical records,
- make archival collections more accessible to the public,
- support research and development (particularly for electronic records),
- provide professional development for archivists and historical documentary editors,
- work with states on improving access to state and local records,
- engage communities in preserving and publishing historical records
A complete list of projects supported since 1965 is available online at Projects Sorted by State and Territory.
You can access as well our Catalog of Publishing Projects.
