Joseph Henry (1797 –1878) was an American scientist, specializing in the development of the electromagnet and induction. He was the secretary for the National Institute for the Promotion of Science and was the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution from 1846 until 1878.  This series is a selective edition of the personal and official correspondence and records of this pioneer experimental physicist.
