Japanese Boy Scouts from Amache Relocation Center at Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park, 1943
This photograph of Boy Scouts at Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park was included in the August 1943 narrative report created by Jesse L. Nusbaum, superintendent of the park. These second and third generation Japanese-American boys were not in the park on a pleasure visit. They were there to dismantle an abandoned Civilian Conservation Corps camp for transport back to the Amache Relocation Center at Granada, CO, where they lived.
The National Archives at Denver holds reports, correspondence, and administrative records of the Southwest, Rocky Mountain, and Intermountain Regions of the National Park Service, as well as a number of individual National Parks and Monuments.
