The Day that Shook Georgia: Film Screening and discussion
Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum Theater
Atlanta, GA
Wednesday, April 10, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EDT
The Carter Library and Georgia Public Broadcasting host a screening of the film The Day that Shook Georgia on Wednesday. In 1971, one of the worst industrial tragedies in U.S. history shook rural Southeast Georgia. There was an explosion at the Thiokol chemical plant, 12 miles southeast of Woodbine, Georgia. The victims were predominantly Black women, manufacturing trip flares for the Vietnam War. There will be a discussion with some of the survivors following the screening.
