Stewart Udall: The Politics of Beauty is a feature biography of the most effective environmental public official in U.S. history. Udall was Secretary of the Interior from 1961 to 1969. He created more national park units than any Interior Secretary in history and led the fight for the most important environmental legislation we now take for granted. He was also a champion of social and racial justice, the arts, and international cooperation. He worked in a bipartisan fashion. This film captures the beauty of the American west and the legacy of Stewart Udall, a story told through interviews with many prominent Americans. The film’s director, John De Graaf, will introduce the screening and will be joined in conversation by Bob Stanton, former Director of the National Park Service (1997–2001).
Presented in participation with the 2023 Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital
