Chief Justice Earl Warren: Protecting People
Eisenhower Presidential Library
Guest speaker Juliet Morris will join us virtually for a discussion of the life and career of Chief Justice Earl Warren, nominated to the Supreme Court by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Warren joined the Court just before Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which declared public school segregation unconstitutional and led to wider civil rights victories in the 1960s. The Court under Chief Justice Warren continued to recognize and protect individual rights and freedoms.
Juliet Morris is the Education Specialist at the Supreme Court Historical Society in Washington, DC. She joined the Society this year after spending 7 years as a social studies educator and curriculum writer in Baltimore County, Maryland. Currently, Morris is developing resources about the Warren Court (1953-1969) for the Society’s new civics education website, which makes Supreme Court history more accessible for teachers and students.
The 2024 Waging Peace program series is made possible courtesy of the Eisenhower Foundation with generous support from the Jeffcoat Memorial Foundation.
