Parking and Access Procedures in College Park

As established on July 25, 2013, researchers and visitors may continue to park in the garage during public access hours and are still required to present valid vehicle operatorís license to the security officer on duty. The parking is on a first come, first serve basis and the number of spaces are limited. The security office will advise you where to park dependent on volume at the time, and it could be the main garage, on the access roadway or the satellite parking lot. Individuals with expired or no driverís licenses will be denied access to park and required to leave the Archives II area and park elsewhere.

The parking garage opens to the public at 8:00 a.m. The public will not be allowed to leave cars overnight. Vehicles without license plate numbers registered with NARA Security Management Division (BX) must exit the garage no later than 30 minutes after the research rooms close. Currently research rooms close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.

Vehicles in the garage or on the access road after these times, without license plate numbers registered with BX, are subject to removal at the owners' expense. As a reminder, security officers enforce long-standing regulations that prohibit bringing firearms (except for on duty law enforcement officers), dangerous weapons, explosives, or other prohibited items into a Federal building or parking area. A permit to carry a weapon issued by a local jurisdiction is not valid in a Federal building or parking area.

Please note: Researchers taking the 5:00 PM NARA shuttle from Archives I to Archives II will have at least 30 minutes after the shuttle arrives at Archives II to retrieve their vehicles without concern of being towed.
