Background on the Records of J. Lee Rankin
James Lee Rankin served as General Counsel for the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy (commonly called the Warren Commission). His son donated these records (approximately 21.01 cubic feet) to the National Archives in 1996. The papers consists of the files Rankin maintained throughout the Warren Commission's investigation, and contain numerous drafts of each chapter of the Commission's final report, as well as memorandums, correspondence, interviews, investigative reports, and newspaper and magazine articles relating to the assassination.
