Collection

Collection

1) An artificial accumulation of documents brought together on the basis of some characteristic (such as means of acquisition, creator, subject, language, media, form, name of collector) without regard to the provenance of the documents.

2) The whole of the documents, regardless of form or media, organically created and/or accumulated and used by a particular person, family, or organization in the conduct of personal or organizational activity.

For example, the collection "Franklin D. Roosevelt Political Papers" (Collection Identifier FDR-FDRPOL) is a collection donated by Roosevelt of his papers that relate to his political activities in the Democratic Party from December 1920, after the Cox-Roosevelt defeat in the Presidential election, to January 1928, when Roosevelt began his campaign to become Governor of New York.
