Records of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center
NARA's Southwest Region in Fort Worth, Texas, holds records of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC). Included in their holdings are records of the Office of the Director that relate to administering, planning, and conducting manned space flight projects including Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and the Space Shuttle; technical reports of the Crew System Division that document life support systems for Project Gemini and power and propulsion systems for Projects Gemini and Apollo; reference files on press operations and press releases of the Public Affairs Office relating to Project Mercury and space program equipment made by private industry from 1962 to 1966; and records of the Director of Administration relating to Project Mercury and Apollo including contract administration files. Descriptions of these Johnson Space Center records are available in the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
ARC Search Instructions
To read the descriptions of records from the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in ARC, click the yellow Search button in the upper left corner of this page.
- Change the search type to Advanced Search.
- Limit the search results to 1000.
- In the Location of Archival Materials list scroll down and choose "NARA's Southwest Region (Fort Worth)."
- Scroll down and choose "series" from the "Level of Description of Archival Materials" list.
- Scroll down to the Record Group Numbers Filter and click the Lookup button.
- Type "255" in the keyword box and click the Go button.
- Click the "All" button. This will return you to the main search page.
- Click the Go button to search for all of the series level descriptions. The search will bring back over 300 descriptions of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Flight Center records.
- Click the Display All Hits button to see all of the descriptions.
To narrow the search you can enter search terms in the keyword box. For example, the keyword "Mercury" narrows the results to 34 series on Project Mercury.
To search just for descriptions of files or individual items repeat the steps above but change the search limit to 2,000 and choose either "file unit" or "item" from the "Level of Description of Archival Materials" list.
