MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY RECORDS CONTACTS: Regional Records Administration Conference, RACO Chicago 2010
I am pleased to announce that the Seventh Annual Regional Records Administration Conference RACO Chicago 2010 will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in downtown Chicago. The theme of this year's conference is Managing the Records of an Open Government.
On December 8, 2009, OMB issued OMB M-10-06, Open Government Directive, which instructs executive departments and agencies to take specific actions to implement the principles of transparency, participation, and collaboration set forth in the President's Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government, issued on January 21, 2009. The role of records management in fostering transparent and open government is explicitly acknowledged in those instructions.
Several of the regional RACO presentations will focus on the records management issues and challenges presented by the Open Government Directive and provide strategies agencies can use to address these challenges. There will also be sessions on cloud computing, social media, and the current status of NARA's Electronic Records Archives (ERA).
