MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY RECORDS CONTACTS: Encouraging Federal RM Participation in the Administrations Transparency Blog.

Beth Noveck, Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Open Government [OSTP] and the keynote speaker at our recent, annual RACO Conference spoke about the relationship between records and social media (see her presentation at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/pdf/raco2009-noveck.pdf ). At that time, she reminded us that while the brainstorming phase of a social media-enabled discussion focused on how to implement the Presidents Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government(http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Transparency_and_Open_Government/ )has concluded, the discussion phase providing the an opportunity to dig deeper into the ideas and challenges presented during that initial phase has recently begun. As a reminder of the role that records management has in facilitating transparency of government, NARA encourages you to participate in the discussion, offering your unique records management-related perspectives regarding specific postings. The OSTP blog can be found at http://blog.ostp.gov/2009/06/03/open-government-initiative-discussion-phase-transparency-principles/ .

If you have any questions, please contact the Lifecycle Management Division appraiser or Regional Records Management Contact assigned to work with your agency. A list of the appraisal and scheduling work groups is posted on the NARA web site at: http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/appraisal/index.html .
