MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY RECORDS CONTACTS: Continuing Study of Federal Agency Recordkeeping Technologies

We are pleased to notify you that NARA has issued a Continuing Study of Federal Agency Recordkeeping Technologies, which was completed in 2008. The results are now available at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/resources/recordkeeping-tech-2008.pdf. As a follow up to the Survey of Federal Agency Records Management Applications (2007), NARA studied three headquarters-level Federal agencies who are implementing Records Management Application (RMA) software products, and one headquarters agency that uses E-mail Archiving Software (EAS). The report summarizes the study responses, discusses the strategies each agency is using to implement its own particular technology, and presents the lessons learned from all four technology implementations.

If you have any questions, please contact the Lifecycle Management Division appraiser or Regional Records Management Contact assigned to work with your agency. A list of the appraisal and scheduling work groups is posted on the NARA web site at: http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/appraisal/index.html.
