MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Agency review of draft General Records Schedule for FOIA Virtual Reading Room Records

On March 2, we sent out AC 17.2016, inviting agency review of six new schedules produced by the General Records Schedule (GRS) Team in its multi-year project rewriting the GRS to reflect current government functions and practices. One of those schedules was:

GRS 4.2 Addition: FOIA Virtual Reading Room Records

This message is to let agencies know that we have already received sufficient information to convince us we will not be moving forward with proposing item 181 for permanent retention. We want to save agencies unnecessary investment of effort drafting comments that will prove already overcome by events. We would, however, be interested in learning if you think a universally applicable retention period for these records could be established, and your suggestions on language.

We will also still be happy to receive feedback and commentary on item 180 in that same draft schedule. Please send any questions and comments to GRS_Team@nara.gov. We will accept comments through April 1, 2016.
