National Archives Reveals Treasure Trove of Newly Identified Civil War and Reconstruction Records

Thousands of newly discovered documents by a famed American man of letters

WHAT:  FOR MEDIA ONLY:  To mark the 150th Anniversary of Fort Sumter and the start of the Civil War, the National Archives will unveil newly discovered original Civil War-related records written by one of America’s most famous authors. Several original records pertaining to this discovery will be displayed for the media at the event.

WHO:  Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero
Noted researcher and scholar who discovered the significance of these records

WHEN:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011

April 12, 2011, is the 150th Anniversary of the battle of Fort Sumter in 1861, marking the start of the American Civil War in Charleston, SC.

WHERE:  Please use the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW
