National Archives to Host ICA Meetings March 22-26

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) announced today it will host meetings of the International Council on Archives (ICA) March 22-26, 2010. Meetings will include the ICA's Management Commission, Programme Commission, and the Fund for International Development. Representatives from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America will attend the meetings at the National Archives Building.
The Programme Commission is the ICA organization with oversight of the professional program of the ICA. It develops the organizations Strategic and Business plans, and considers grant application requests from around the world for funding and endorsement of projects that will be of benefit to archives world wide. NARA’s participation on the Commission includes Dr. Lewis Bellardo, Senior Advisor to the Archivist of the United States. Dr. Bellardo is the Chair of the Commission and is Vice-President, Programme of the ICA.
The Management Commission has broad oversight of the policies and procedures of the ICA. NARA has ex-officio representation on the Management Commission based on its participation on the Programme Commission.
The Board of the Fund for International Development (FIDA) will have its first meeting on March 26. At the meeting, the Board will establish policies and procedures for its funding program to assist archives and archivists in developing countries. NARA also has ex-officio representation on the FIDA Board.
