Washington, DC…In celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s state visit to the United States, the National Archives will display one of the official portraits of the Queen photographed by Annie Leibovitz to mark the visit. The photograph will be on display beginning Sunday, May 6, the date of its release, through May 31.

The Annie Leibovitz photo of the Queen was taken on March 28, 2007. The title of the image is: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Buckingham Palace, London, 2007.” It is one of four photographic images marking the Queen’s official state visit to the United States. The photo is a gift from Annie Leibovitz, and is hand signed, titled, and dated by the artist, Annie Leibovitz, on April 26, 2007. The image is part of a special featured document display that also includes Rose Kennedy’s 1938 diary account of her encounter with a charming then-Princess Elizabeth, age 11. Mrs. Kennedy and her husband, Joseph Kennedy, (who was serving as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain) were weekend guests of the King and Queen at Windsor Castle.

The exhibit will be on display in the East Rotunda Gallery of the National Archives Building which is located on Constitution Avenue at 9th Street, NW, and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
