David Alsobrook Named Director of Clinton Presidential Materials Project
Press Release · Wednesday, August 16, 2000

College Park, MD

Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin announced today the selection of David E. Alsobrook as director of the Clinton Presidential Materials Project. The Project plans to locate in Little Rock, Arkansas, at a temporary facility where all of the records and the head-of-state and domestic gifts of the Clinton Presidency will be stored pending construction of the Clinton Presidential Library. The Clinton historical materials include more than 75 million pages of official and personal papers, 1,850,000 photographs, and 75,000 Presidential gifts. These primary sources document President Clinton's eight years as President.

Mr. Alsobrook previously directed the transition of the Bush Presidential materials from the White House to temporary space in Texas to the Bush Presidential Library as director of the Bush Presidential Materials Project. He was selected as director of the Bush Presidential Library in 1997. In making the selection, Archivist Carlin said: "Mr. Alsobrook is uniquely qualified to be the director of the Clinton Presidential Materials Project. In addition to his work at the Bush Library, he was liaison for NARA at the Carter White House and then spent ten years as the supervisory archivist at the Carter Library in Atlanta, Georgia. I am confident that Mr. Alsobrook's wide-range of experience with Presidential libraries and with processing Presidential materials will ensure a smooth transition for the Clinton Presidential materials."

Mr. Alsobrook received a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Auburn University in 1983. Prior to coming to the Carter Library in 1981, he served as an archivist with the Auburn University Archives and the Alabama Department of Archives and History.

The Clinton Presidential Materials Project is administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.
