Featured Document Display Marking 86th Anniversary of the Titanic Disaster
Washington D.C...To mark the 86th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the National Archives and Records Administration will present a special document display featuring three documents relating to the disaster:
- a U.S. Navy daily memorandum reporting the Titanicís collision with an iceberg, April 15, 1912
- the image of the Titanicís first-class reception room, published in Shipbuilder, 1911
- a photograph of a lifeboat filled with survivors of the Titanic waiting to be rescued, April 15, 1912
All items are among the Records of District Courts of the United States, held by the National Archives and Records Administration-Northeast Region (New York City). They are in case files of a limitation of liability suit brought by the shipís owners after it sank.
The display is free and will be open to the public on Thursday, April 9, 1998 through April 23, 1998 in the Rotunda. The National Archives Rotunda is located on Constitution Avenue, between 7th and 9th Street, NW, and is open seven days a week, 10 A.M. to 9 P.M.
