Marian Smith, National Agency Historian for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service at USCIS headquarters in Washington DC, will present two NARA-sponsored workshops on Federal immigration records research resources and history. Time will be available after each presentation for questions, including solutions to common research problems.
9 to 11 am: Immigration and Nationality Research and Records
Ms. Smith will share her expertise on immigration records since 1892 and naturalization records since 1906 for all nationalities, housed at both NARA and USCIS.
1:30 to 3:30 pm: Chinese/Asian Immigration Research & Records
Ms. Smith will discuss immigration records in Record Group 85 (Immigration and Naturalization Service) relating to Chinese and Asian immigrants since 1882. Discussion will include records at NARA in Washington DC, in National Archives regional facilities throughout the nation, and records resources remaining with USCIS.
