Northeast Path to Certification of Federal RM Begins in November

With the ongoing changes that are occurring in information technology and in Federal recordkeeping, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is pursuing ways to ensure that records professionals have the knowledge and skills to do their jobs effectively and are recognized for their professional accomplishments. More than 500 individuals have successfully completed NARA's Certificate of Federal Records Management Training-a sequence of courses and exams covering the core knowledge areas of records management-since the certificate program was launched in 2006. During FY 2008, NARA's Northeast Region will be offering the complete series of courses necessary to complete NARA's Certification of Federal Records Management. We will be offering this comprehensive records management curriculum sequentially, first in Boston and then, later in the year, in New York. Visit the RM Learn Center for more information.

Records Emergency Planning and Response

This new one-day course provides the skills and knowledge needed to protect or mitigate damage to records and to recover essential records in the event of an emergency. The emphasis of this course is on developing a Records Emergency Action Plan and knowing how to activate all aspects of that plan. It includes information and hands-on practice in recovering records damaged in an emergency situation. The course is based on the vital record requirements contained in FEMA's Federal Preparedness Circular 65-Guidance for Continuity of Operations Planning and CFR 36. Visit the RM Learn Center for more information.

Electronic Records Management

This new two-day course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to manage electronic records throughout the records lifecycle, and to take steps required to transition from a paper to an electronic records environment. Visit the RM Learn Center for more information.

New Webinar Training

Have you ever been unable to attend training due to limited availability and travel budgets? Did you know that NARA Northeast Region offers records management training online through webinars? We designed our webinars for customers who can not attend a full-day class in person. Our webinars are also great for agencies seeking a cost-effective way to train numerous staff at once. Each webinar has a series of 1.5 hour sessions that met over the course of 2 to 5 days. Each session is "live" and taught by a real NARA instructor. Students can also visit a weekly chat room to discuss questions they have about the content, exercises, or a related records management issue. Experience a NARA webinar for yourself. And, see how you can build your skills and apply what you learn in your workplace. Visit the RM Learn Center for more information.
