The NHPRC promotes continuing development of professional skills for archivists, records managers, and historical editors.
Institute for the Editing of Historical Documents
The Institute for the Editing of Historical Documents is jointly sponsored by the Commission, the Wisconsin Historical Society, and the University of Wisconsin. The Institute is a free, one-week seminar on the process of editing historical documentary editions, and it is open to aspiring editorial scholars.
Early each year, the NHPRC issues an announcement with instructions to applicants.
Historical Editing Fellowships
Fellowships for historical editors are apprenticeships for aspiring editorial scholars who work under the direction of a seasoned professional on actual editorial projects. Grants are awarded directly to NHPRC-funded projects to enable them to directly select fellows.
Archives Leadership Institute
Beginning its second year in the summer of 2009, the Archives Leadership Institute is a week-long event with presentations by dynamic people in the archival field and relevant leaders outside the profession. The goal of the project is to examine the leadership needs of the archives profession and to prepare participants to influence policy and effect change.
Produced by the University of Wisconsin's School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), the program is directed primarily at mid-level to senior staff and archivists who aspire to leadership roles in their organizations and/or professional associations.
Each year, the SLIS issues an announcement with instructions to applicants.
