Lemuel Shaw (1781 –1861) was an American jurist who served as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (1830–1860). Prior to his appointment he also served for several years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and as a state senator. This edition includes the papers (1648–1923) of the eminent Massachusetts lawyer, legislator, and jurist (1781–1861).  The edition also includes family papers, correspondence, legal papers, diaries, account books, and notebooks of the Savage, Cargill, Hayward, Knapp, Craigie, Melville, and Shaw families.
