James McKeen Cattell (1860 –1944) was the first professor of psychology in the United States, teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, and long-time editor and publisher of scientific journals and publications, most notably the journal Science. A selective edition of the psychologist’s papers that focus on his personal development while a student in Europe and on the role he played in a number of scientific, educational, and intellectual activities of the late 19th century.
