A Letter to the Executive Director
I just read your piece in Annotation regarding the preservation of newsfilm, a project I most heartily endorse and applaud. I have been working with a Rockville [Maryland] preservation group to do the same thing for local home movies from the past sixty years, many of which are rich in illustrating the cultural history of the town as it changed from rural to suburban over that period. I hope the NHPRC will publicize the fragile nature and historical importance of these amateur films and urge local historical societies and organizations to identify, collect, and preserve them.
